On Sunday, September 3, 2023, the 16th Headies Award took place in Atlanta Georgia for the second consecutive year. Since its inception in 2006, the Headies has played a prominent role in the documentation of the strides recorded in the Nigerian music industry through its award which has now become the biggest prize in Nigerian music. On the night, B. His Nigerian music renaissance speech was also the highlight of the event. Other big winners were Asake with two gongs including the coveted Next Rated Award; Burna Boy picked up the Afrobeat Single of the Year and the Best R&B Song. 2023 Headies Awards Happening This Weekend In Metro Atlanta

The   2023 Headies Awards   are happening this  Sunday, September 3, 2023, at  Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center in Atlanta, Georgia, USA . This is the 16th year for the award show that celebrates the artistic ingenuity of Pan-African talent. Over the years, it has rewarded, recognized, and celebrated the greatest in Afrobeats, African music, and culture, featuring sounds from South, East, Central, North, and West Africa. This year's nominees for International Artist of the Year include Drake, Future, Selena Gomez, Don Tolliver, and Ed Sheeran. Sean Love Combs will receive the International Special Recognition Award. Tems, Burna Boy, Victony & Tempoe, Omah Lay, and Atlanta's own Davido featuring the Sunday Service Choir are nominated for Best Recording of the year. The Headies, Nigeria’s most prestigious music award show, released the much anticipated nominations list for its 16th edition. The list features an array of both local and international artists that have been recognised for their contribution to the music scene in the past year. Notably, Damini Ogulu, a Grammy award-winner popularly known as Burna Boy, received the most nods on the list with a total of 11 nominations . He also battles for the Album of the Year with Davido, Rema, Asake, Omah Lay and Victony. This year’s award will also recognise international artistes who have made their mark in the Nigerian music industry. The nominees for the 2023 International Artiste of the Year Category include Drake, Future, Selena Gomez, Don Toliver and Ed Sheeran.
